Core research at Keihin takes place at the Tochigi R&D Center. This work is coordinated flexibly with the Kakuda R&D Center and Kawasaki R&D Center for advanced research and development projects, focusing on creative and innovative technology. The Tochigi R&D Center implements a comprehensive research and analysis program, conducting software development and inspection while performing system development. The Kakuda R&D Center concentrates on the development of core products which support overall systems, while working on production technology and quality enhancements to improve performance, durability and economy. The main themes at the Kawasaki R&D Center consist of a wide range of specialized research to develop fuel supply devices and systems. Technology resulting from individual research projects is effectively integrated in a timely manner to improve prototype production efficiency and speed up the pace of development. We are striving for the further systemization and increase in functions for the environmental, safety and comfort factors of our products, thus meeting the most important requirements of the automobile industry in the future.

Keihin also uses its pursuit of high performance, efficiency and safety in an aggressive effort to develop low-emission products to preserve our precious environment. Advanced Keihin technology is contributing to new projects with priority on the global environment such as low emission vehicles which reduce harmful substances in exhaust gas to the absolute minimum, natural gas vehicles which run on compressed natural gas, hybrid vehicles with motor assist and the electronic fuel injection system for motorcycles, outboard motors and general purpose engines. Ever since Keihin became the first to comply with the Muskie Act in the U.S. which established the world's strictest exhaust gas emission regulations in 1972 with the CVCC low emission engine, Keihin has continued its pursuit of research and development to create the ideal harmony between people, automobiles and the environment.
