Current Environmental Initiatives

At Keihin, we are actively conducting environmental activities in areas such as product development and purchasing, manufacturing and shipping. This section presents some of those activities.

Product Development

Hybrid cars are currently drawing a lot of attention as environmentally friendly vehicles. Our electronic control products and fuel supply products are used in the CR-Z hybrid vehicle launched by Honda in February 2010.

Shipping

We are also promoting environmental initiatives in product shipping. In fiscal 2009, we succeeded in reducing the use of PVC materials by improving the injector packaging.

Example of improvements in packaging for goods shipped overseas

When shipping injectors overseas, we changed from a conventional packaging method of attaching caps to each item to prevent foreign matter from entering the product to a method of preventing entry of foreign matter without using caps by withdrawing the air from the bag wrapping the injector to leave the product tightly sealed, leading to a reduction in PVC use.

Manufacturing

We have a variety of initiatives for reducing CO2, energy consumption, and water consumption at manufacturing sites.
In fiscal 2009, we reduced CO2 by compressor control improvements and improvements such as making use of waste heat from air compressors.
